I’m a certified Journal to the Self® instructor through the Center for Journal Therapy, Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Journal to the Self® is a 12-hour workshop where students are taught a variety of writing techniques for creative expression and personal growth.Classes are normally comprised of 5 to 10 people and can take place online or in person. Journaling has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, improve health and make us happier human beings. No experience in writing or journaling is necessary—this is a course for anyone!
The power of writing and journaling has been documented by scientists and researchers. Dr. Claudia Aguirre, neuroscientist and mind-body expert at online mindfulness organization Headspace, says:
“Writing can be a powerful tool to help deal with our thoughts and emotions;
some researchers believe it can simplify and organize fragmented memories.”
An article in online magazine Mic on the benefits of writing states,
“No matter the quality of your prose, the act of writing itself leads to strong physical and mental health benefits, like long-term improvements in mood, stress levels and depressive symptoms. In a 2005 study on the emotional and physical health benefits of expressive writing, researchers found that just 15 to 20 minutes of writing three to five times over the course of the four-month study was enough to make a difference.”
